Camping in the Gold Mining Camp in the Mokelumne River

Camping is fun! Camping is going out of town in order to enjoy nature’s gift. A night or more are spent outdoors in a cabin or tent or none at all. Camping on the Mokelumne River is an interesting experience because the place is not only a camp site but is also a gold mine site as well! First of all, this camp is a gold mining camp in the Mokelumne River and where the camp is situated is in the Mokelumne Canyon. This was the old mining camp used by the Forty-Niners which could only be accessed by horseback. Since the place was so inaccessible, most of its gold can still be found in this place today. In the Mokelumne Canyon is a three pronged river that merges in this camp site. Its clear water is such a beautiful sight where guests can see tadpoles and fish swim. Not only is the river beautiful because of the clear water but also because of the waterfalls and the rock formation that is approximately forty feet high. With such a captivating sight, the owners of the place invite the guests to not only visit the place but to see how their gold mining operations work. Then these guests are also invited to mine their own gold by any of the following methods – panning, dredging and sluicing. This gold mining camp in the Mokelumne River has set up various outdoor adventures and fun activities for families and guests. Some these exciting activities are first of all camping in a gold mining site where everyone can go on a picnic near the river, others may even explore miles of river by rafting, swimming in nature’s beautiful “swimming hole” and diving from various sizes of rocks near the area. They may also go hiking in the trails once used by the Forty-Niners and collecting rocks. Guests are not only limited to camping activities but also gold mining adventures such as panning, dredging and sluicing. This is done allowing the guests to participate in these gold mining adventures. After showing the guests the remote Mokelumne Canyon which was once mine by the Forty-Niners, guests are brought to see the Placer Gold Mine Operation, the Wildlife and Mining Artifacts Museum and the ruins of the past. After all this, guests are shown how to pan for gold. They may pan gold by first purchasing patented gold pans and then they may go to area for panning gold. Dredging is another method of obtaining gold. There are areas where dredging of gold are done. One equipment for dredging is lent for every cabin rented. For sluicing, reservations have to be made ahead of time because of limited gravel pile and schedule of operations. This particular process takes about five to six days before the gold is obtained. So let us all go camping in the gold mining camp in the Mokelumne River where we can all have gold mining adventures.
